The months seem to be flying by this year. It feels like I was just working on my winter wardrobe, and here I am already finishing up my spring wardrobe. This month for the Sewing by Ti Blog Tour, we are showing off some of our recent projects that are perfect for spring.
When I think about spring, I think about flowers. Floral fabric is every where right now, but something about this scuba from JoAnn caught my eye a few weeks ago. I really enjoy sewing with scuba, especially for dresses. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good rayon spandex dress. However, sometimes this Momma needs a little more structure. Scuba definitely does not cling to my backside which makes me more comfortable and confident.
I fell in love with the Made for Mermaids Mama Cassie back during the release earlier this year. The high low hem option was my favorite due to the extra coverage for the back of my legs.
I knew I wanted a sleeveless dress (instead of the off the shoulder options from Mama Cassie) like the Sweetheart Dress from Patterns for Pirates. But I didn’t want the high neckline from the Sweetheart. So I mashed not two but three patterns to make this dress. The final pattern used was the M4M Mama Joy low scoop neck.
I used the traditional binding method to finish the neckline and the armholes. The dusty rose cotton lycra was scrap material from a different project. The cotton lycra from Purple Seamstress works wonderfully for bindings.
This is my first time combining three separate patterns to make one garment. Fortunately, since the patterns were all P4P or M4M they were easily combined. I knew the Mama Joy and Mama Cassie bodices and skirts could be switched up. I thought I would check the bottom of the bodice of the Sweetheart, and it was a perfect additional bodice option for the skirts.
This dress will be perfect for church, baby/wedding showers, or can be dressed down a little bit with flat sandals.
On a different note, I am still learning so much as a sewist, blogger and photo editor. Most of the time my husband or my mom take my photos. We usually end up with one or two hilarious outtakes. But these two below take the cake. Take a look…
Yep. Somehow we managed to take pictures where it looks like I am the lamp from a Christmas Story. I will leave you there.
