Celebrate the Holidays Blog Tour

I am back for another monthly edition of the Sewing by Ti Blog Tours. This month the beautiful ladies of the tour are blogging with the theme of “Celebrate the Holidays.”

As our family grows with all of my siblings married with kids now, it seems that are holiday traditions have changed due to everyone’s commitments. I joke often about how great it is that my children have three sets of grandparents because we rarely have to pay for a babysitter, but it makes it so challenging during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

One tradition I have refused to let go of is Christmas Eve Service at our church. We have tried to go every year we have been in town for as long as I can remember. First, it was the music. Then in high school and college, you came to church to see the older boys who were home visiting family. Now, I want my children to experience the beautiful Christmas service themselves.

This year I wanted to make my dress for Christmas Eve. When I saw this ITY fabric from Sincerely Rylee a month or two back, I knew it would make the perfect Christmas Dress.

I already had the perfect pattern in mind and was hoping to squeeze it out of my two yard cut of fabric…which I managed to do and only had to cut one of the waist ties off grain. Here is my newest Made for Mermaids Mama Isabel.

The M4M Mama Isabel was one of my favorite pattern tests. I made three different versions during testing which you can check out here. However, I really wanted to try another version- the dress length with the tulip hem.

I have sewn a lot since the Mama Isabel test (almost a year ago), and I was amazed how quickly the dress came together.

Perfection! Especially since this is a size down from my tester versions!!! ( Indigo bodice graded out to green hips for any curious Mermaids out there.)

This dress takes my high low hem obsession to the next level. The back of the dress is a great length with the front showing a little above my knees.

I thought about making it a faux wrap dress, but I decided with the tulip hem that staying true to the pattern would be best.

I definitely got rained on while trying to take these photos earlier this week which means the fabric is not actually spotted. Also, I took these before work and was upset that the rain caused my curls to fall out. I never curl my hair, and it only lasted for about 15 minutes. All my straight hair ladies know exactly what I’m talking about!

Now for church, I will most likely wear a cami underneath. Depending on how cold it is, I may even wear solid colored leggings with boots. However, I thought unlayered would be best to show the dress off here.

So here it is. My newest Christmas tradition. Making my own Christmas Eve dress. This is extra special for me since our mom made several of our Christmas dresses over the years.
