As much as I love knit dresses, I have come to appreciate a lightweight woven dress during the summertime. The humidity has already turned up, which makes double brushed poly dresses put on hold until the fall. All my Southern girls know what I am talking about.
The Blank Slate Patterns Catalina Dress just received an update and has now made an entrance into my wardrobe. It is the perfect casual, lightweight dress.
I mean, it is a woven dress without closures (because honestly who has time for zippers and buttons???).
The sleeves and neckline is constructed with premade bias tape making for a clean finish. There are two sleeve options include cap sleeves and sleeveless.
And did I mention it has pockets???
Blank Slate Patterns are always well drafted, good wardrobe staple pieces. If you haven’t checked out Melissa’s patterns, head on over to her website or Facebook group.
Also, make sure to comment on this blog post by midnight CST on May 25th to be entered to win a copy of the Catalina Dress!
Until next time….sewing and sipping,
Stacey

I have been debating on this pattern. I think I need to try it ! I just made a top in that exact fabric. Now I wish I had saved it for this dress!

I was surprised to see that the Catalina is a woven dress. There aren’t nearly enough loose summer dresses in woven fabrics available from indie designers – or maybe I just have a selective memory. The fabric you chose is beautiful, too. And I totally agree about polyester being clothing kryptonite in humid weather!

I usually don’t sew wovens, but I am really starting to enjoy it! I will need to do some research to find some other dress patterns.

I love the fabric. Can I ask what type it is (looks like rayon? but I’m still learning these things) and where it came from? Also I’d love to win this pattern!

The fabric was from JoAnn from last year. I never take a picture of the end of the bolt but I think it is rayon?!? I am terrible at woven fabric types!!
