I have been knee deep in swim fabric for a few weeks now, and I have loved every minute of it!!  Okay, well maybe not every minute of it because no project is complete without a little time spent seam ripping.

Made for Mermaids is adding big time to their Mermaid Shores Collection with the release of SEVEN new patterns!!  I am here today to highlight two Mama patterns: Alexandria and Mama Roxy.

Since I am super Type A, we will start with Mama Alexandria.

I have never been able to buy one piece swimsuits in my adult life due to my long torso; therefore, I was excited that M4M released another one piece this year.  I made two Alexandria suits to try out a few of the different options.

My first Alexandria is a solid black, faux wrap, halter straps with a flounce.

I love the halter, and I am so happy that the back does not slide down while wearing. I love a good suit that stays in place.

 

I used swim cups, power mesh and elastic shelf all in the top pieces of this swimsuit. This was an earlier version of the pattern so my lining wants to pop out a little on top, but the construction was changed during testing which eliminated that in my second version.

This solid black makes me feel classy, and it is on trend with the flounce!

My second Alexandria might just be my favorite of the four suits. This version is the tie wrap, cross straps and no flounce. Again, I used swim cups, power mesh and elastic shelf on this version.

I was a little worried during testing about the true wrap with the ties because I have a two year old. I didn’t want a wardrobe malfunction. But this baby survived the ocean test and chasing my boys on the beach. So that’s a winner in my book.

This fabric is so stunning in person. I love all of the colors. Raspberry Creek is definitely my favorite source for swim fabric.

Now on to Mama Roxy.

My first version is the bikini option with the ruched bottoms. The instant I put these bottoms on I knew that they would get so much wear. These bottoms fit so wonderfully and did not ride up while on the beach.

This one was made out of scraps from my first swimsuit I ever made— Siren/Hello Sailor from Patterns for Pirates. The fabric is from Purple Seamstress. You have got to love a good pineapple print!

I did not use power mesh on this swim top, but I did put in removable cups.

My final swimsuit to share with you is the short peplum top with the ruched bottoms.

I fell in love with this floral swim fabric last year from Raspberry Creek, but I fought the urge to buy it. When they came back out with it this year, I couldn’t resist it again. Plus, the gingham print coordinates so perfectly with the floral.

This is such a great spin on the tankini.
