Peg Leg Update

Attention all you legging lovers out there! Pattern for Pirates has updated their beloved Peg Leg pattern in celebration of 50,000 members in the Patterns for Pirates Facebook group. Several new options are now available including a waistband pocket, a side seam pocket, color blocking and a gusset. The most exciting options are the new high waist option and the new contoured waistband option for the low rise.

I am not a legging fanatic, but it is hard to resist a soft pair of double brushed poly leggings.  The fabric above is from Sew So English.  As much as I love floral, it is nice to take a break from floral every now and then, and what better way to do it then a fun geometric print.

In the original Peg Leg Pattern, I usually cut the rise of the next size up to give myself a little more height.  The new high rise cut line gives me the extra without having to modify the pattern.

With this high rise, you can use the regular band instead of modifying to a tall band for additional coverage.

With my generous backside, the fabric turns a little see through.  I would not be pulling up my top in public.  I paired this with a solid rayon spandex Mama Ava from Made for Mermaids, which is one of my favorite forgiving top patterns.  I am embarrassed how wrinkled the top ended up being for the photos, but sometimes when your little ones are behaving for a minute you take the opportunity to sneak some photos in.

I am a c-section x 2 momma, and I like the extra rise on these leggings!!

The most exciting part of the pattern update for me are the new options that make the perfect workout leggings.

I used the color blocked option in capri length. I did, however, use the same fabric for the side panels so it makes it hard to see. But I really wanted those side pockets!!! The peg leg fabric was purchased from Knitpop last year. It is a nice, thick performance material making it perfect for leggings.

I happened to pick up the fabric from the Slim Fit Raglan I am wearing from Hobby Lobby one day. I wanted to make a long sleeve but lightweight running top. I usually run in the mornings and wanted something to wear that would breathe a bit. The fabric is from Hobby Lobby’s spring apparel line. It coordinated perfectly with the main legging fabric.

I also used it for the waist band and the top of the pocket. Look at how perfect that pocket is for my iPhone!

I used the thumb hole cuff from the Raglan Add On Pack for the first time. Judy has a video link on the tutorial to make the cuff construction easy.

I wanted to copy a RTW workout top I have from Walmart where the back of the funnel neck is ruched. I added some 1/2 inch elastic to the funnel before I attached it to the shirt to achieve this look. Plus the elastic helps to keep the funnel more towards the back.

Again with the update the high waist option works well for my body type.

I may end up taking off this waist band and attaching one with a different fabric for a better compression effect. The waistband fabric was perfect for the running shirt but is really too lightweight compared to the thick legging fabric. But once again, the beauty of sewing! I can switch it out to make it more functional for me.

Don’t forget the updated Peg Legs and Add On Pack are free!! Congratulations to Judy and the P4P Team for hitting the 50,000 member milestone. In addition to the free Peg Legs, Judy is having a 30% off sale for a single patterns on the website with the code 50ksale. They don’t have sales often so hit it up while it lasts (through April 25th)! I only have a few P4P patterns left to purchase so I may have to complete my collection!

Until next time…sewing and sipping,

Stacey
