Gala Gown: Patterns for Pirates Pattern Test

Someone please invite me to a fancy event. ASAP. Why you ask? Because Patterns for Pirates just released a gorgeous dress, the Gala Gown.

Okay, okay. I won’t have anywhere fancy to go anytime soon, but this pattern can be dressed up or down depending on options selected and fabric chosen. The bodice is fully lined and has beautiful princess seams. Both the neckline and the back bodice have high and low options. The skirt options include knee length, floor length, and floor length with a high slit.

I made two versions during testing. The first dress is a tank version with both the high neckline and high back. The fabric is a chevron textured double knit that I purchased a few years ago from JoAnn.

The high neck and high back allow for good coverage for wearing a regular bra underneath. The bodice is fully lined, too, making the dress feel supportive.

The Gala Gown has optional pockets and per usual I regret not taking the time to add in pockets. Any future versions I make will definitely have pockets!

During testing, so many beautiful versions were posted in the testing group, and I knew I had to make a velvet version for this Christmas season.

This fabric was from the fall line at JoAnn this year. It is so pretty and the colors are perfect for the season.

I chose the low back version to take the glam up a notch. I still kept the high neckline so my mom doesn’t yell at me for having cleavage. lol.

The skirt is paneled, too, to match the princess seams of the bodice. This also requires less fabric than a full piece skirt.

I cannot wait to make a floor length version next! Anyone else need a full day to sew without kiddos and with an already clean house??

The Gala Gown and all of its glorious options is on sale for $7.50 until 12/14/19 midnight CST.

Until next time….sewing and sipping,

Stacey
