Plum Dolman – Sew Like My Mom Pattern Test

One of the reasons I even started sewing a few years ago was because I wanted to be like my mom. She spoiled my older sister and I for holidays by making our dresses, and her Halloween projects were praised by everyone. I have always thought “Sew Like My Mom” was a perfect name for a pattern company as I relate so well to it. When the opportunity came about for testing the new Plum Dolman from Sew Like My Mom, I jumped all over it.

Some of my more recent sews have been more complicated, so I was looking forward to testing a quick Dolman pattern. Melissa from Sew Like My Mom designed a dolman style sleeve top with three different hemlines. My spring wardrobe is two shirts happier now!

My first version is a view E (curved hem without sleeve inserts) in a solid double brushed poly from Pretty Posh Prints.

This dolman is a looser fitting tee that hides my recent weight gain very well!!!  The DBP drapes fairly well despite’s the wind blowing my shirt below.

The curved hem gives a little extra coverage without adding width at my widest part…my hips!

I finished out my outfit with my new necklace from Mill & Main Mercantile in Downtown Historic Lynnville (Tennessee).

Like most pattern tests, I couldn’t stop myself at just one version. I really wanted to try View A due to the looser body.

Once again, I used solid double brushed poly from Pretty Posh Prints in an olive this time to make a versatile top that I can dress up or dress down.

If you have never sewn a dolman style top, it is such a fast sew since the sleeves are part of the bodice.

The neck band on the Plum Dolman is finished using a binding which makes the finish a little dressier than a neckband.

Look at this drape and tummy coverage!!

The Plum Dolman from Sew Like My Mom was a quick looser fitting top that will be used again and again for stand alone pieces now and for layering later this year.

The Plum Dolman is on sale through Sunday, May 7th. You can also snag the Plum and Apricot (girls or tween versions) as a bundle during the sale, too!

Until next time….sewing and sipping,

Stacey

Nice! I quite like both, and I love seeing them on you. I have an issue with bloggers who won’t model their makes, og who poses in strange ways to hide their face. If you won’t be seen wearing your makes why bother blogging about it? You otoh proudly wear your makes, and rightfully so! (I would opt for a non-synthetic fabric though, as synthetics shed quite a lot of microplastic both with wear and each wash, and we all know where those particles end up. Microplastic does not good food make… 🙄)
