Sly Fox Fabrics Back to Sewing Celebration

In the south, school started back in early August thanks to a modified year round schedule.  But I am here today as a part of the Sly Fox Fabrics Back to School Sewing Celebration.  Each day this month we are putting forth our best B2S inspiration using beautiful Sly Fox Fabrics.

Today is my turn to share the Plum Dotty double brushed poly.  I fell in love with this DBP as soon as I saw it because our local high school’s colors are purple and gold.  I wanted to make a dress to wear to a game to support our team, but I wanted the dress to be appropriate for fall in general.

I made a yellow Boho Babydoll dress from Patterns for Pirates a few months ago for a friend, and I loved the fit of the dress.  I have had the pattern sitting out since that dress, but I have yet to make the dress version for myself.  The high low hemline of the skirt is so practical for me while chasing around my kids at the ballgames.

The Boho Babydoll was perfect for this fabric!  I was a little worried about the large dots being too much, but I am excited about how the dress turned out.  As the weather turns colder, I will be able to add leggings, tall boots and a scarf for the perfect fall outfit.  But you are going to have to wait for summer to end before those styled pictures get taken!!

After making my Boho, I realized I still had enough fabric left over to make a raglan style top.  The white striped background in the plum dots fabric pairs perfectly with a solid white for a coordinating top.

I am still debating whether I am going to add some heat transfer vinyl to the top to show my Lion Pride for my alma mater.

I chose the Santa Fe Top from Hey June for a swing style raglan (view F I think?).  The white fabric is rayon spandex to allow for the appropriate drape for the top.

I love how the raglan sleeves extend farther into the body of the shirt than a typical raglan.  It makes it a little more tedious to ensure everything lines up well when you sew it, but again the extra effort is worth it for a crisp seam on the side.

I am thankful that two yards of this fun double brushed poly lead to two different pieces that I can wear for supporting my local high school or just out and about.  Sly Fox Fabrics has a great variety of fabric types in both solids and prints for all of your Back to School Sewing needs.  Head on over to their website for new inventory!

Until next time….sewing and sipping,

Stacey
