Color Me Lucky Pantone 2017

So I feel a little silly. I was hesitant to sign up for the Color Me Lucky Pantone 2017 blog tour because, well…..I had no idea what the Pantone Color Chart even was. I am always slow with fashion trends, and I don’t get to spend enough time browsing Pinterest or magazines for the latest styles and colors. So off to google I went.

According to the Pantone Color Institute, the Spring 2017 colors are compromised of the top 10 colors seen on the runways for this season.  When I was scanning these gorgeous colors, I was excited to see that I had already purchased fabric that fell into the “Pale Dogwood” category.

“Pale Dogwood is a quiet and peaceful pink shade that engenders an aura of innocence and purity. The unobtrusive Pale Dogwood is a subtle pink whose soft touch infuses a healthy glow.”

I need all the healthy glow I can get in March as I come out of my winter hibernation.  But in all seriousness, reading the descriptions of the shades makes me more appreciative of the thought put into selecting the perfect hues for fabric.  It also helps to give more meaning behind a piece of clothing.  Interestingly enough, this Pale Dogwood fabric I picked up at Hobby Lobby was purchased for my Easter dress.

In planning, I wanted my Easter dress to be more classic than trendy.  I had sewn up the Charleston from Hey June Handmade in View A last summer for my sister-in-law’s wedding, but I had never attempted the more fitted View B.  I usually steer clear of fitted skirts due to multiple bad experiences with retail versions of this silhouette; therefore, making a more fitted dress for my pear shape was a new challenge for me.

View B of the Charleston uses the same princess seam bodice as View A, but the skirt is fitted. The back skirt is 4 separate pieces, and the front skirt consists of 3 pieces. The shape of the pieces allowed for these curvy hips of mine to be accommodated. I am no fit expert. I know my next version has a lot to be improved on, but I am still pleased in how the dress turned out. I get a little pulling across my thighs on the front.

One of my other fit issues due to my body proportions was not lengthening the bodice pieces in the best spot. I should have known with this liverpool that I would need to lengthen through the armscye. Since I lengthened below the bustline, I am getting whiskering and tightness in the underarm. Lowering the armscye would also help to place the curve of the princess seams in a more flattering location.  I am learning so much about fitting patterns better to my body, but I still have a long way to go.

I love the little bit of gold shimmer in this fabric.  Since I seem to make everything in floral these days, the subtle floral pattern is a nice balance to all of the bold prints out right now.

I skipped the zipper in the back since I could get the dress on without it.  I love the look of the zipper, but I simply ran out of time. #momlife.

The fit may not be perfect, but the fabric sure is! This dress is AMAZING. The color and that little shimmery reflection is just perfect.

This dress looks beautiful on you. I tend to nitpick all my fit issues to death so I know where you are coming from. But rest assured that you are your own worst critic!
