I cannot believe it’s that time already. Time to begin working on my fall wardrobe. I have a new pattern to start with for my cooler weather closet. Bella Sunshine Designs has updated their versatile Maggie Top and re-released it last week.
This pattern has multiple sleeve lengths, three neck lines, and three length options (top, tunic, and dress). Since it is a fitted shirt, I had to do a moderate amount of grading out to get the right fit.
The pattern also has an option for a built in Full Bust Adjustment, which I used for this tunic.
Although I do get a lot of wrinkles and a small amount of pooling in the low back, this is due to my shape. I really could use a sway back adjustment to improve the fit in the back.
The tunic length has the perfect amount of coverage!
For this Maggie Tunic I finally used my June Bee Box fabric from Vinegar and Honey Co. For those of you who don’t know, the Bee Box and the Wee Box are monthly fabric subscriptions. The Bee Box comes with two yards of fabric and a pattern recommendation (and coupon!!). June’s Box only had one fabric (instead of two coordinating fabrics). This striped liverpool had just enough stretch for this top.
Although the stretch percentage was appropriate for the pattern, I will size up next time when using a sturdier fabric like liverpool. I think it would help to eliminate some of the lines I have at the bust and back.
Overall this top is a great staple pattern, perfect for all seasons! On to make more!
The Maggie Top, Tunic, and Dress is on sale through Friday, August 4th! Grab yours before the sale ends!
Until next time…sewing and sipping,
Stacey
