It seems like summer has been going on and on and on this year.  Pumpkins and hay bales may be everywhere, but it does not feel like fall at all.  We were able to swim in our pool this past weekend but not without being attacked by the biggest mosquitos ever.  Seriously fall?

My mind has switched to sewing for cooler weather.  So out with the double brushed poly and rayon spandex and in with the French Terry, scuba and Ponte de Roma.  I really enjoy sewing with these heavier fabrics as they tend to behave themselves a little bit better than the lighter fabrics. If you want a great Ponte fabric to start with, then Raspberry Creek Fabrics Club pontes are the way to go.

I went through some crazy times recently which lead to less sewing and less stalking the fabric groups on Facebook.  So somehow I missed the release of the RCF custom Ponte de Roma and rayon challis a couple of months ago.  But it is not too late to catch them in the shop.

This is the “teal, olive, beige and white floral.”  Even though it is a floral, the colors are perfect for the fall.  The ladies of RCF paired up this solid charcoal Ponte as a coordinate. I tend to try and find solid coordinates that exactly match a color in the print, but I love the charcoal contrast.

This dress is the Mama Joy from Made for Mermaids.  This is one of my go to dress patterns for cooler weather since Ponte and Liverpool work so well with the pattern.

The box pleats look complicated, but the construction is very straightforward.  After making a few Mama Joy’s, I do not even look at the tutorial when constructing the dress.

I did alter the pattern by using a facing instead of a banded neckline for a clean, dressier finish.  I definitely need to starch and steam it a little better, but sometimes you have to grab photos whenever you can.  Hey, if the kids are preoccupied, I am going to skip the steam!

All together, this combination is making me yearn for cooler weather even more.  I can wear it as is for the fall and then layer with boots, leggings and a sweater for the winter.
