I don’t miss out on too many Made for a Mermaids Pattern tests. I was sad that I had to miss out on the Women’s Naomi because of a busy work and baseball schedule. Fortunately though, Team Mermaid followed up the first dress in the Resort Collection with the new Women’s Felicity Swing Top and Dress.

I hacked the Siren Swimsuit Top from Patterns for Pirates two years back to make a similar style, but I am grateful for a pattern now to follow for this flounce style dress.

The pattern has top, dress and maxi length options along with two lengths of flounces (or even no flounce). It also includes an optional shelf bra!!

I know a lot of the testers were able to hide regular bra straps under the straps, but I don’t mind wearing a strapless bra, especially when supported more with a shelf bra.

My first Felicity is the dress length with the full swing and the short flounce.

The construction is actually really simple with the most time spent pressing the binding for the neck line and the straps.

The fabric is a double brushed poly floral print from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I love RCF for their custom club prints, but they also have some great retail fabrics, too.

I did not include a shelf bra on this version, but I will definitely include one on all of my future versions.

After seeing all of the tester photos before the release, I knew I needed a maxi version. I went to my local Hobby Lobby with a certain pineapple print in mind, but I came away with this blue tie die instead.

This is the longer flounce with a shelf bra. I did not include elastic in the straps because I was out of elastic, but I will be redoing the straps to include elastic to help hold up the weight of the dress.

I love the fit and flow of the maxi. I think I snagged 4 yards to be safe and that was plenty. Thank goodness for 40% off coupons!!

I already have a Felicity-Fiona mash up in the works, and I also have plans for a few top versions to keep me cool through the summer. But I am going to have to put Felicity away soon to make a Naomi for our upcoming beach trip.
